2007 SCCA Touring 2 Season Wrap Up

The 2007 Season was lots of fun but even more work.  Starting out the season with a win at CMP was great but the rest of the season became a battle of wills with my Evo.  After a run in with the turn one wall at Pocono it really was a basket case.  The car ran the Runoffs with a bunch of issues, any one of which should have sidelined it, but I was to stubborn to let them keep me from finishing the season.  In the end I came in 18th, but after all I and the Evo had been through finishing under power was a victory.

2008 SCCA Touring 2 Regular Season

The 2008 Season began for me Easter weekend at Road Atlanta.  Things were looking up as the SCCA after having added an intake restrictor to slow the Evo down, decided to approve better springs.  So with the new springs installed I felt like the car was handling better than ever.  I qualified on pole for T2 and had a great start staying in front of some faster cars (as seen above).  After pulling and maintaining a good lead on the 2nd place car (the yellow Lotus behind the Vette) I settled in to a comfortable pace and planned to cruise to victory.  Once again the mechanical gremlins caught up to me.  The 6-speed transmission that the EVO MR comes from the factory with is known to have a weak 3-6 gear set and 4th gear decided to shear in to little pieces at the end of the back straight.  Having completed only 5 of 18 laps I coasted in to the paddock with a DNF, not the way I'd hoped to start the 08 season :(

I've purchased the parts to swap in a much stronger 5-speed and Jon at TRE is going through it now.  With any luck I'll have the car back together and tested for the NE Region opener at Summit Point mid-may.  Wish me luck...or better yet...wish my car luck :)
